Update on Urban Decay 'The Black Palette' - How to get true colour payoff

If you haven't read my previous post about this palette, then please read that first and then read this one. :-)

As you will know from my previous post about this palette, I was a little disappointed with the colours when applied to the eyelid over the original Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP) and I said that I would have a play with the colours to see if I could get them to work better.

I wanted to try them over UDPP Eden, which came with the palette to see if it would make any difference and also over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, as it is a wonder product that really helps to make eyeshadows look like they do in the pan, especially where shimmer is involved.

Here are the results:
The main block of the six colours were applied over the original UDPP and Pixie Epoxy.
As you can see, the individual colours are very apparent and don't just look like various shades of matte charcoal like they did when I first tried them over the original UDPP alone. Also the shimmer now shows up on all five shimmery colours (The only matte shade is Black Dog, which has a beautiful velvet look).
As a comparison I applied Barracuda over the original UDPP and Cobra over UDPP Eden. As it is yellow-based, I figured that this would be the best colour to try it with, but as you can see, it doesn't do much for the colour.

Conclusion: This is a beautiful and interesting palette, especially if you like smoky eyes and dark colours in general, but if you want to get the most out of the colours, then I recommend using Pixie Epoxy underneath them ...and if you haven't already got Pixie Epoxy, you need it! I think the above has proved that.

Urban Decay 'The Black Palette' - My Initial Thoughts

So last week, I went to Debenhams during my lunch break, solely to buy the Naked Palette and instead of just picking it up and going to pay, I made the mistake of taking a minute to look at the rest of the display... Of course, I saw The Black Palette and instantly knew I had to have it! It appealed to me in so many ways: Firstly, the overall style of the packaging, the font used etc, the fact that it comes with a mini-size Primer Potion in Eden and a midi-size 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero (my favourite pencil eyeliner), the shimmeriness of the eyeshadows themselves and the way that they appeared to be colourful, yet dark at the same time. I was so excited about all the smoky eye possibilities...
I used it for the first time at the weekend and tried three of the colours (over the original Primer Potion), but all it looked like was a basic black smoky eye. I couldn't see any difference in the colours side by side on the lid, the individual shades didn't show up as anything other than black and the overall look wasn't very shimmery either. However, the shadows were easy to blend, didn't fade and I achieved a sexy, smouldering, smoky eye with no fuss.

Tutorial: Late Summer Plums

I wore this look to work recently and liked it so much that I filmed a tutorial, so that you can do it too!
Keep in mind that you don't have to use the exact products that I use -
any pinky-purple-plum colours will do the job!

Shopping with Sirvinya!

I met up with fellow blogger/youtuber Becky AKA Sirvinya for the first time today. If you watch a lot of makeup videos on YouTube then there's a very good chance that you will have seen her videos and also her blog www.sirvinya.com. Becky was one of the first makeup gurus that I came across when I first started watching makeup videos on YouTube, long before I started my own channel and still remains one of my favourite.
As you can imagine, it felt a bit a surreal at first, but that soon passed and we had a very enjoyable afternoon makeup shopping. Stay tuned for the haul video...
